Evaluation and Feedback

We encourage residents to discuss with their preceptors their performance on the rotation throughout the course of the rotation. A formal evaluation (In-service Training Evaluation Report (ITER)) is completed at the end of each rotation which the preceptor, resident and program director sign. The ITER evaluates performance in CanMeds format. For longer rotations (e.g. 6 months), a mid-point evaluation is expected. A separate ITER is used to evaluate progression in psychotherapy. The residents also evaluate the rotation just completed as well as their supervised psychotherapy. In addition, out program uses two self-evaluative multiple choice exams per year so the resident can assess their knowledge base.
Residents meet with the program director formally twice a year to discuss performance and career planning.
