Welcome to the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alberta. We are a dynamic department dedicated to pioneering research, outstanding clinical care and innovative education. Together, our team of researchers, clinicians, educators, learners and administrative staff are focused on improving the lives of individuals with mental disorders and diseases that affect the brain.
In our department we have a number of research and clinical groups, each recognized internationally through their own specialized expertise. You can find these groups by clicking on the About Us tab at the top of this page and then Programs, or through clicking on the Research and Education tabs.
We have many partners in our efforts, and as you navigate through our website you will come across the names of individuals and agencies that help support our research, help us deliver the best in clinical care and help us ensure that the next generation of scientists and clinicians receive a well rounded and outstanding education in psychiatry and the neurosciences.
As a scholarly department we offer graduate degrees at the MSc and PhD levels, postdoctoral fellowships and resident training in psychiatry, including clinical fellowships, and we support the continuing professional learning needs of practicing psychiatrists. In addition, many of our focused research and clinical groups offer specialized seminar series and journal clubs.
Our Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alberta is not a building, a set of rooms or a vague entity; our department is a group of people who have made the choice and dedicated ourselves to be innovative in our research, in our clinical care and in our delivery of education. On behalf these people I welcome you to our department website, invite you to learn about us and hope you will contact us with any questions you may have.
